O(a) cutoff effects in lattice Wilson fermion simulations

چکیده
In this paper we propose to interpret the large discretization artifacts affecting the neutral pion mass in maximally twisted lattice QCD simulations as O(a2) effects whose magnitude is roughly proportional to the modulus square of the (continuum) matrix element of the pseudoscalar density operator between vacuum and one-pion state. The numerical size of this quantity is determined by the dynamical mechanism of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and turns out to be substantially larger than its natural magnitude set by the value of ΛQCD.

O(a2) cutoff effects in Wilson fermion simulations
We show that the size of the O(a2) flavour violating cutoff artifacts that have been found to affect the value of the neutral pion mass in simulations with maximally twisted Wilson fermions is controlled by a continuum QCD quantity that is fairly large and is determined by the dynamical mechanism of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. One can argue that the neutral pion mass is the only physi...
متن کاملVerification of O(a) Improvement *
One of the most important systematic effects in lattice simulations of QCD is the finiteness of the lattice spacing a. It is well known that physical observables computed using the Wilson action are subject to corrections of order a, which can be rather large. In order to obtain reliable results in the continuum limit it is desirable to reduce lattice artefacts, either through the Symanzik impr...
متن کاملThermodynamics with Dynamical Clover Fermions
We investigate the finite temperature behavior of nonperturbatively improved clover fermions on lattices with temporal extent Nt = 4 and 6. Unfortunately in the gauge coupling range, where the clover coefficient has been determined nonperturbatively, the finite temperature crossover/transition occurs at heavy pseudoscalar masses and large pseudoscalar to vector meson mass ratios. However, on an...
متن کاملCutoff effects in meson spectral functions
Temporal meson correlation functions in Euclidean time can be related to meson spectral functions by analytic continuation. Furthermore using the Maximum Entropy Method one can extract the spectral functions from meson correlators calculated on a finite lattice [1]. The method was applied at zero [1,2] as well as non-zero temperature [3,4,5,6]. In such an analysis one usually uses all time slic...
متن کاملImproved Renormalization of Lattice Operators: A Critical Reappraisal
We systematically examine various proposals which aim at increasing the accuracy in the determination of the renormalization of two-fermion lattice operators. We concentrate on three finite quantities which are particularly suitable for our study: the renormalization constants of the vector and axial currents and the ratio of the renormalization constants of the scalar and pseudoscalar densitie...
